As our daughter's summer vacation crawled towards its end, we paid a visit to the SHARJAH AQUARIUM and the MARITIME MUSEUM. Its a great place situated in Al Khan, Sharjah.
We got to see a lot of the life underwater here. Different species of fishes, tortoises, corals and other aquatic life which inhabit the ponds, mangroves, lagoons and the ocean in and around UAE.
Sharjah as a city has a lot of link to the sea and beaches are a plenty here. They have a rich history of diving and pearl fishing, before the dawn of oil in UAE. The life in those times is well depicted in the maritime museum.
The Aquarium has underwater walkways and projected presentations on marine life, fishing and pearl diving in the olden days.
Its the largest learning center in UAE and houses eels, jelly fish, sea horses, marine life in the mangroves and the huge fishes of the ocean in total about 250 species.
As our daughter went about ooh-ing and aah-ing at the creatures watching us, we tried to capture the beauty of this rich and diverse undersea life. The colorful fish made their escape from our prying camera more often, still these are the beautiful pics for you. God's designs and color combinations on these forms of life left us spell bound.
There is a cafe, a souvenir shop, a tiny play area for the kids and beautiful view all around.

We went on to the maritime museum and had a glimpse at life in this place before the oil came.
A link to India and Indian tea brought a smile to our lips, made us realize the interwoven history that the two countries shared through the trade route.
A final snap with a message from local fisherman , a plea to save the memories, the heritage and the legacy.
